A QUIET HOLIDAY
The King's Birthday is a quiet holiday in Wellington today, though there are several- sports and winter games; fixtures and tournaments. Had . the weather been more favourable during the'past week or so road traffic would probably have been heavy, but under cold southerly conditions a day's motoring is not notably pleasant. This afternoon the Marine Drive and the Hutt Road are busy with afternoon trip parties.
The annual seven-a-side Rugby tournament was held on a number of grounds this.morning and the finals at Athletic Park as curtain-raisers to the Wellington-College Old Boys championship match. A seven-a-side women's hockey tournament, men's hockey, and Association championship matches are other fixtures this.; afternoon. Golf tournaments and interclub matches are being held on practicallyl all links.
At midday a salute of twenty-one guns to his Majesty was fired from the • battery at Point Jerningham,
