Except for Derbyshire, which was playing the New Zealanders, all the first-class counties were engaged in the championship series, which was completed today. Among the. more interesting results, Sussex lost on the first innings to Hampshire in a highscoring match, and Yorkshire scored an outright win at the expense of Kent. There were a number of outstanding individual performances with both bat and ball. For Middlesex Edrich made 175 and 73 not out, and Berry made 165 for Leicestershire. Prominent among the bowlers were Phillipson (Lancashire), Watts and Gover (Surrey), Smailes- (Yorkshire), and Geary (Leicestershire). Results are:—• • Middlesex v. Lancashire, at Lord's. —Lancashire 233 (Iddon 114; Sims five for 63) and 309. Middlesex 369 (Edrich 175) and 151 (Edrich 73 not out); Phillipson six for 63). Lancashire won by 22 runs. Surrey v. Essex, at the Oval.—Surrey 335 (Barling 91) and 224 (P. Smith five for 40). Essex 227 (Watts seven for 88) and 178 for eight (Wade 87; Gover six for 64). Surrey won on the first innings. Yorkshire v. Kent, at Bradford.— Yorkshire 297 (Sellers 109; Watt six for 99) and 328 for seven, declared (Mitchell 86, Smailes 80 not out). Kent 254 (Ashdown 89) and 84' (Smailes five for 16). Yorkshire won by 287 runs. Glamorgan, v. Worcestershire, at Stourbridge—Glamorgan 224 (Dyson 115) and 211 (D. Davies 104). .Worcestershire 391 (Cooper 96, Gibbons 139) and 47 for one wicket. Worcestershire won by nine wickets. :

Hampshire v. Sussex, at Portsmouth. —Hampshire 480 (Hill 161, Walker 123) and 127 for three, declared. Sussex 440 (J. Parks 168, H. Parks 155) and 85 for four wickets. Hampshire won on the first innings.

Leicestershire v. Somerset, at Frome. —Leicestershire 490 (Berry 165). Somerset 226 (Gimblett 72; Geary six for 72) I and, following on, 236 for four (Gimblett 63). Leicestershire won on the first innings.

Northamptonshire v. Nottinghamshire, at Nottingham.—Northamptonshire 362 (Grimshaw 84) and 203 for five, declared. Nottinghamshire 330 (Gunn 79, Staples 82) and 117 for two. Northamptonshire won on the first innings. Gloucestershire v. Warwickshire, at Gloucester. —Warwickshire 518 (Kilner 74, Buckingham 109) and 88 for four wickets. Gloucestershire 322 (Hammond 142) and, following on, 263. Warwickshire won by six wickets.
