(From the Special Representative of the United Press Association.)
(Received June 9, 11 a.m.)
DERBY, June 8.
Derbyshire defeated the New Zealand cricket team by 202 runs. Faced with the difficult task of batting all day to avoid defeat, or of making the highest total of the tour to win against a varied and strong attack, New Zealand lost four good wickets in .the first hour today, and were ail out for a score of 200. The Derby ground was a field oi tribulation for the New Zealanders today, the batsmen never fully mastering the slow spinners of Mitchell nor the fast bowling of Copson. The first seven wickets fell in under two hours. Vivian appeared to be in good form when he was adjudged leg before wicket. Moloney clouted a 6 to longon and was stumped off the next ball. Wallace hit four crisp 4's and then fell in similar fashion. Page played as though he was determined to stay but missed a loose ball which he.tried to pull. Carson competently coped with the bowling for half an hour and was then caught on the leg side off a snick from the fast bowler. Weir was bowled by one which hardly rose. BEST STAND OF INNINGS. Tindill and Donnelly made the best stand of the innings, adding 50 runs. The former was dismissed in the first over after lunch, and Dunning was caught off the first ball he received. Cowie assisted Donnelly to add 33 runs in a last-wicket stand of 16 minutes. Donnelly played a highly creditable innings.l He was • especially severe on the slow bowling, taking seven 4's off Mitchell. He hooked anything -short with fierce force, hitting eleven 4's, nearly all on the leg side. He batted a little over an hour, making 60 out of the 94 runs scored for the last five wickets. * • Details:— ':
