MOTORMAN EXONERATED
(By Telegraph—l'reas Association.)
DUNEDIN, June 7,
A statement that an examination of tram No. 18, which was involved in a fatal accident at Opoho recently and which last week developed a fault in the magnetic braking system, had disclosed a fault in the wiring connected with the brakes and that no blame for the accident could be attributed to anyone, was made by the chairman of the tramways committee, . Mr. W. Batchelor, at a meeting of the City Council tonight.
Gratification was expressed by councillors that an inspection of the car completely exonerated the motorman, Mr. Chapman, who had been acquitted on a charge of manslaughter in connection with the Opoho tram fatality.
