YOUTH HOSTELS
ESTABLISHED IN LONDON
Mothers will be glad to hear of the move forward being made in London to cater for young men of strictly limited means, who have to leave home to earn their living in London supporting themselves entirely on their earnings, and facing the problem of loneliness on arriving in the great city for the first time, states an exchange. The Rt. Hon. Lord Ebbisham is president of the \movement, and the vicepresidents include the Earl of Feversham, Lord Hollenden, the Rt. Rev. Bishop of Bristol, the Marchioness rownshend of Raynham, and Lady Dynthia Colville. There are already three1 hostels, and a fourth is being Dpened shortly. The idea behind the scheme is to provide youths between the ages of fifteen to twenty-one with real homes in a strange town at prices well within their means. They also have opportunities, as potential professional and business men, to enjoy open discussion on topics of the moment through :ontact with eminent men and women ,vho visit the hostels on, the weekly guest nights. There is a system of govjrnmenl by the residents, intended to jncourage self-reliance and acceptance if responsibility, and facilities are Dffered for all kinds of outdoor sports, [t is. essentially a "help" yourself movement—idleness and indifference ire taboo.
