WAR ADMIRAL'S TREBLE
The American equivalent of the Epsom Derby, the 'Belmont Stakes, .. H miles, run at Belmont Park, was won last Saturday by the Man o' War colt War Admiral, who was thus completing the treble consisting of the Kentucky Derby (1£ miles), the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. When War Admiral, scored at Churchill Downs early last month, he was a sur-' prise victor, but his subsequent success in the Preakness. at Pjmlico a fortnight later and now his win in. the Belmont Stakes' are the proof that he is the best of the American three-year-olds this year. War Admiral's sire (Man, o' War) is still held by many to have been the greatest horse ever to have raced in America. He was by Fair Play from Mahubah, •by Rock Sand, sire of Tracery, whose line' has done so well in Australia in recent years through Peter Pan, Cuddle, Sarcherie, Marabou, Pantheon, Contact, and others. : War Admiral was - only a moderate performer at two years, with three wins worth 12,600 dollars. His three recent successes would have been worth approximately 93,000 dollars, or perhaps more.
