The Director of Broadcasting (Professor James Shelley) will return to Wellington tomorrow from a business visit to the South Island.
The Rev. A. H. Nordmeyer, M.P., was a passenger from the south this morning.
Cr. R. H. Macintosh, son of Mr. Charles N. Macintosh, formerly of Timaru, has been appointed the first Professor of Anaesthetics in. the. University of Oxford under Lord. Nuffield's gift. The appointment carries a salary of £2500 a year, and ' dates from February 1. Dr. Macintosh, who was born in Timaru, will receive an honorary M.A. degree of the University and will become a member of Pembroke College. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of. Surgeons, Edinburgh, and has specialised in anaesthetics for a number of years in London.
The Rev. A. Fear, of the Nelson Baptist Church, arrived by plane this morning. He will conduct special meetings at the Lyall Bay Baptist Church, and also attend the annual meetings at Lower Hutt of the Central Auxiliary of the Baptist Union. During his stay in ■ Wellington he. will be the guest of. the Rev. and Mrs. C. S. Matthews, at the Baptist Manse, Lyall Bay.
The presentation of a life-member-ship badge was made to Mr. J. E. Cusack,. president of the Wellington Women's Hockey Association, at the meeting of the association last .night. I Members of the executive spoke very ' highly of Mr. Cusack's long association with the game, and his valuable work for the advancement of women's hockey in New Zealand.
Mr. A. J. Curtis was last night congratulated by the chairman of . the Automobile Association, Wellington (Mr. E. A. Batt), upon his appointment as president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. . . ■ ■
