OLD BOYS V. MARIST
Playing with greater cohesion and showing ability to make good their opportunities, Wellington College Old Boys scored a comfortable win over Marist Brothers Old Boys. The game, played on Anderson Park, resolved itself into a tussle between the forwards, and the deplorable conditions made good handling by the backs almost out of the question. There were occasions, however; when the backs did come into the picture, and two particularly good movements by Wellington College Old Boys—Baldwin and Hurdley being the scorers. Marist were the first to open the account, Meadows kicking a difficult penalty goal. They gave quite a creditable display, and their forwards more than held their own in the scrummages and. in the loose. Brown, behind the Marist pack, waff outstanding, but was not supported to the full. Baldwin and Sadler each scored a try for Wellington College Old Boys in the first spell. Baldwin converting one. Conditions improved slightly during the second spell, and the ball was given more air. Although Marist. tried the hardest to lessen the gap, and for the most part confined play to their opponents' territory, they were 'jnable to break down the defence. Baldwin kicked a penalty goal for Wellington College Old Boys, and this, with a try scored by Hurdley, made the final score Wellington College Old Boys 14, Marist Brothers Old Boys 3. The referee was Mr. A. Hooper.
