"MEMBERSHIP DRIVE"

The membership1 drive "At Home" of the Y.W.C.A. Junior Women's Club held recently was well attended and proved highly successful. A muchincreased membership roll is anticipated as a result. The programme began with two humorous recitations by Mrs. Laurenson, after which Mrs. Philpot sang two charming songs. The play-reading circle gave a short one-act play, "0.H.M.5.," those taking part being Mesdames Morton, Quin, Saker, Harper, Laurenson, and Miss Griffiths. Mrs. Welsh, a member of the club, sang two numbers which were much appreciated. The club president, Mrs. Tennet, welcomed the guests, and briefly outlined the aims of the club, which, she said, had been formed for the purpose of enabling married women to meet in the daytime for service, recreation, and social intercourse. Badminton and bridge circles had proved very popular, while the play-reading and crafts circles provided recreation of another kind. The club gave service by heln in the Y.W.C.A. cafeteria, and also by raising funds towards the upkeep of the organisation. Miss Bridgman (secretary of the Wellington Y.W.C.A.) stressed that members of 'the club had a twofold affiliation —first with their own club, and through the club with the worldwide organisation of the Y.W.C.A., which strives to bring women and girls of all countries together in a common bond of love and fellowship. A home-made afternoon tea was served in the club's own room, the hostesses being Mesdames Quinn, Robson, Tobin, and Toms. Among those present were Mesdames Tennet, Robson, Quin, Saker, Cameron, Jamsch. Morelle, Dunkley. Harper. Toms, Laurenson (2), Philpot, Fauvel, Welsh, Bryce, Martin, Thorn, Stevens. Loney, White, Tustin, Cooper, Tobin, Gibbons, Latham, Arbuthnot, Homer, McCarthy, Bringans, McDonald, Rowe, Kerr, Rutherford, Ranson, Hause; Misses Griffiths, Burke, and Bridgman.
