UPPER HUTT BRANCH.

At the meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute on Wednesday, Mrs. A. L. Harper, vice-president, presided over a fairly large gathering. Four new members were welcomed.

Reports were read by Mrs. Rogers, who was a delegate at the half-yearly meeting of the Southern Wellington Federation, held at Otaki, and by Mrs. I. Gibbs, who attended the meeting of the Hutt Valley Federation. Mrs. Kettlewell (Newlands Institute) demonstrated eggshell work. .

Results of various competitions are as follows: —Ginger biscuits, Mrs. Hyslop 1, Mrs. J. Hazelwood 2. Best gift for Is 6d, Mrs. V. Williams 1, Mrs. S. Braid 2. Thrift article, Mrs. S. Braid 1, Mrs. V. Williams and Mrs. H. Williams (equal) 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Croft, Fly, Griffin Galey, W. Gorrie, Gibbs, sen., L. Grieg, J. Hazelwood, H. Hazelwood, and E. Harris.
