MEMENTOES FOR PETONE

An autographed photo of General Sir William R. Birdwood was presented to the Petone Borough Council on Monday evening by Sergeant-Ma jor E. C. Porter, who maintains a correspondence with General Birdwood. Mr. Porter, in making the presentation, said he was a grandson of Colonel Porter, that his father had a long association with Petone, and that he desired the photo to be a link between his family and Petone. Mr. Porter also presented the council with an autographed photograph of the officers' mess, taken in Cairo.

In accepting the gifts the Mayor (Mr. A. Scholefield) promised that the council would treasure them and place them on exhibition.
