PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The fortnightly meeting of the: Petone Borough Council was held last evening.' The Mayor (Mr. A. Scholefleld) presided. The Petone division of the St. Jonn Ambulance Brigade asked for repairs;] to the Ambulance room, which had re-j, cently been broken into, and for suf-* ftcieht paint to paint the building inside and out, the members of the division to do-the painting. Both requests were granted. ; It wa3 decided to renew nine taxi licences and to grant one new licence, Conditional on the taxi owners installing telephones. Two taxi stands were allocated.. Permission to establish a sideshow in Petone was refused. The council allocated, among three bfficer.s, the sum of £15 voted by the Hutt Park committee f6r extra work done by the Petone Borough clerical. Councillor Dickson, pursuant to notice, moved: "That the motion passed by the council at its meeting held on May 17, endorsing the recommendation of the reserves committee that the control of the beach sheds be let by tender, be rescinded." Both Councillor Dickson and Councillar Edwards said they objected to the control passing from the councils London said the reserves committee would be glad to reconsider the matter and would not oppose the rescission, but the reserves committee did not intend to lose control. . The motion was passed without dissent. ...'
