INVITATION TO MINISTER

PALMERSTON N., May 31

A conference of eight county councils at Palmerston North today in connection with the Local Bodies Amalgamation Bill adopted a resolution informing the Minister of Internal Affairs that unless further information than had already been disclosed was submitted in respect of advantages to be gained, the conference was emphatically opposed at-this stage to compulsory amalgamation. The conference invited the Minister to meet county representatives to outline and discuss the Department's proposals in respect to the amalgamation of local bodies in this district.
