AUCKLAND DRAINAGE
PLAN FOR SOUTHERN AREA
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Conclusions based upon recent extensive investigations and tests to determine the most suitable locality in which to discharge sewage from the proposed enlarged drainage area in the southern area of. the Auckland metropolitan district were submitted at a special meeting of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board yesterday. A comprehensive report stated that it was practicable to establish and operate treatment works at frown's Island to provide for the sewage flow from the southern area without causing any nuisance in the locality.
The estimated cost of the original scheme for the southern district was £136,000, but the chairman announced it would now be necessary to add approximately 15 per cent, to that figure to cover, increased costs. The estimate for the northern area, comprising four North Shore boroughs, was £315,000, but thevscheme was not dealt with in the report. The chairman gave notice for a later special meeting to adopt a scheme for the southern area.
