COMIC OPERA SEASON.
Few actresses receive in Australia or New Zealand the ovations tendered Miss Gladys Moncrieff whenever she appears. During her recent Australian season prolonged applause held up the performances of "Merry Widow" "Southern Maid," and "Maid of the Mountains," for, Miss Moncrieff has an enormous following in her qwn country. She commenced a New Zealand season of these comic operas in Auckland last night under Williamson management, supported by an excellent company .Notable, amohg its members are Cecil Kelleway, Eric Bush, Arthur <-larke, Don Nicol, Lois Green, Carmen Mascagny, and a full chorus andballet of shapely youngsters. "Glad," as she is know to all her admirers, slngsSqnia in "Merry Widow," Teresa in Maid of the Mountains," and Dolores in "Southern Maid." Her lovely soprano voice makes light of the demands of each of these picturesque roles.
