THESPIANS NEXT MONTH.
,;A dense fog blankets. the city; as a '' young man-about-town passed "No. • 17" a terrified little Cockney tramp rushes out, .and together they return to examine the. dead body which has ' scared him. To tell more of the plot would spoil the show for theatre-goers who see the Thespians' production of "Number 17," which is to be presented for a season of four nights starting on 'June 9. Throughout,,. the play is livened by\ the unfailing humour of Ben, the little Cockney tramp who has been dragged into these great occasions much against his will. Thrillers are. never-failing successes with; audiences, and "Number 17," which has a worldwide reputation, should take a place .as one of the finest Thespian productions—among' such outstanding efforts as "Call it a Day," "Lovers' Leapi" "Laburnum Grove," and "And So To Bed." The production, which gives excellent scope for stage and lighting , effects, will be presented with all the ! Thespians' usual care in these depart--5 ments—a, care which, has been, dcv scribed by as above professional ; standard.." A strong cast of some of . .Wellington's best-known players ■■■'■■is t -engaged in "Number 17," under the , production of Evan Harrowell, with \ Victor S. Lloyd as advisory director. Those taking part are: Ola Neilson, H. !A. Painter, H. Norman Hannah Selwyn Toogood, Eric Evan-Young, Constance Bradstock, L. M. Schneideman, George Aldridge, and W. M. Willis. The stage manager is Myles F. E. Wright, the property mistresses Isobel Burton and Peggy Lucas, Susie "Painter is the prompter, and W: Sutherland has charge- of the special effects. ■'':.' ■
