CHARLEY'S AUNT

NIGHT IN MAORJLAND

The second korero of the Charley's Aunt Social Club was held last evening,' giving much enjoyment to members and many visitors who came to meet old friends and to pass the time away in dancing and 'other .amusements. ■

The ballroom looked very attractive and gay in appearance. The president was seated outside a Maori hut covered with.flags. From the glow of red fires outside the. carved meeting-house surrounded with ferns, flax, etc., - the guests were able to listen to the items, 'and also danced to the delightful rendering of music. Many posters were displayed to show the snow-clad mountains, hush scenery, fishing, golfing, surfing in the breakers, 'shooting, and many pastimes for which New.Zealand is famous./. Overhead were streamers of bright gold shades and tonings, balloons, and plenty of bowls of flowers and berries were arranged around the room, which all Went to make up a cheery appearance. Delightful' items were given by Mr. M. Cachemaille, Mrs. Miller, Mr. Baker (with piano-accordion); Mr. Thomas, and Mr. Len Barnes, who was welcomed as an old friend. Supper was served from trolleys, and cool drinks .proved very popular. During the evening a novelty and balloon dance: was held, Miss L. Jameson and Mr. N. Ashenden being the winners. Among members and friends present were Mrs. Moores (wearing a gown of ivory satin), Mrs. Beckford (white satin), Mrs. Thomas (black taffeta and red berries^, Mrs. Ashenden (black and floral coatee), Mrs. Meikle (brown taffeta and lace), Mrs. Waters (green velvet and lace), Mrs. Gourley (mauve satin), Mrs. Overend (floral georgette). Miss McDonald (blue velvet), Mrs. I. Tucker, Mrs. Tracey, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin, Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Murray, Mr. Tracey, Mr. and Mrs.. A. ,L. Francis. Mrs. Hannah. Mrs. E. Miller.
