BACHELORS CAY!

Fun reached zenith last night at the Pharmacy Hall, when ■ the Athenian Club, with originality and thoroughness, celebrated the "debut" of five eligible bachelors in a "bachelor night."

The president, Mr. B. Loader, fonpally welcomed a large gathering of members, and visitors and conferred on the five hosts the order of "N. 8." (Night Bachelor), remarking with confidence that no one -yrould regret that the club had fallen back on its "hache-lpr-buttons, to keep up its reputation."/ The hall was gaily decorated in patriotic hues, streamers, pennants, and flags in. profusion, being cleverly sprinkled with many prize relics usually associated with/or familiar-'to, celibacy. The humorous effect -was much appreciated. '' An excellent 'programme of /mixed dancing, interspersed with excellent musical numbers, and the fln^ orchestra and floor, and excellent supper provided left nothing to be desired. Two humorous numbers,' were provided in "The Auction Blofcfc" (a farce | sale, in which the spiritr.-d bidding by : ladies to secure one of,1 the bachelor hosts caused great rrverriment), and I another entitled "It's V£y Beau" (where for penalty the menVind competed in tying bows in ribbons, with results weird and wonderfjul, but often quite creditable).' Items were pleasingly contributed by Miss S. Deveney /.'(songs)., Misses Cook and Hathaway .{lap dances), and Mr. Jack Dawson /{eccentric ■■dances)..
