LENSES MOULDED FROM PLASTICS
A method of producing all kinds of lenses by the use of a new plastic material was demonstrated in London recently. The invention, which consists of a moulding process, 'delivers lenses already polished and ready- for mounting into cameras, binoculars, opera glasses, telescopes, spectacles, range-finders, and other apparatus. The
lenses are for all practical purposes ! unbreakable, as well as being half the weight of glass, and having certain optical properties which are stated to be superior to those of glass. ■
The chief element ilk the cost of • glass lens is grinding and polishing.' These processes are entirely obviated by the new invention. Hence, while the plastic raw material is not cheap, the .finished lenses lend themselves to mass production methods and are liko ly to be substantially less expensiva than glass. , ■■:
