BUILDING SOCIETIES AND HOUSING.
Referring to the Go\'ernment housing .scheme, Mr. E. H. S. Hamilton, chairman United Building Society, Christchurch, said that well-managed building societies had proved their importance in assisting people to own their own homes, and he considered that notwithstanding proposals to increase the number of houses available for renting, building societies had before them a future just as successful and useful as had been their past.
