A motion of sympathy with Mr. "A.": E. Neilson in the death of his brother (Mr. H. Neilson, of Hawke's Bay) was passed at last* night's meeting of the New. Zealand Rugby Union's executive.
Mention was made . also that another brother was in hospital and that the secretary's wife had met with an accident, the hope being expressed. ; that they would make a speedy recovery. ■;
A motion congratulating Sir Charle* Norwood on the honour recently con* ferred on him -was carried at th? meet-; ing of -the Wellington Harbour. Board last evening. The chairman (Mr. p. Mr. D. J. McGowaii was last evening re-elected unopposed chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board for the ensuing twelve months. Tributes wer« paid to his work during the past year.

He was born and ~. educated in Wellington, and in his • younger days was a prominent Rugby, footballer. Tributes to his services to '~ the business' community were paid by members of the chamber. Appreciation of the services 1 given to the Royal Society of New Zealand by Mr. M. A. Eliott, who for sixteen -. v years has acted as honorary treasurer, was expressed at today's annual meeting of the council. Mr. Eliott, although no longer a member of the council,1 was present by invitation.
In his presidential address to today' 3 annual meeting of the council-of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Bishop H. W. Williams referred to the death during the last year of two Fellows, Dr. R. J. Tillyard, who had been a Fellow since 1929, and Mr. E. .Phillips Turner, who was elected last year. Reference was also made to the loss sustained by the Royal Society through the death of the . late Sir Frederick Chapman, Sir Francis Bell, and Mr. C. H. Tread well. \ ■

Dr. J. R. Hosking was selected- as recipient of the Hector Award; at to-, day's annual meeting of the Council, of the Royal -Society of New Zealand. Tribute was paid to the work" done by, him in the chemistry of New Zealand plants, and' to his researches in resins.
