Wellington, on which the party.of New Zealand scientists is going to Canton Island "to observe the forthcoming total eclipse of the sun, .states:—. ~ ' ' "The first of'a series of lectures by members of the .party to the ship's complement was given la3t night by Mr. I, L. Thomsen, of the Dominion Astronomical Observatory, Wellington,: on the' structure of the, universe. "The weather is clear and calm. The date line was crossed today. We were half-way to Canton Island: last night. "This morning we began overhauling the equipment ready, for disembarkation. ,We work in the morning and evening and rest iri the heat of the day. All the members of the party are well. ■■■~-■■ ■ ■■ •■.' / "The crew of the Wellington are preparing special facilities to expedite the transhipping of v instrumerrts and supplies into smairboats for landing-at Canton Island."
