MORE PAY WANTED
FAIPULES IN SAMOA FONO NOT MEETING j APIA. May 24. The faipules are dissatisfied with the new scale of pay of £3 a month. The former rate was £10 a year, with 8s a day allowance when the fono was in .session. They now demand an allowance of 8s in addition to £36, and refuse to continue the fono until the matter is settled. The Acting Administrator. Mr. A. C. Turnbull, suggested that the fono continue, as many important questions had to be discussed, and that they leave the salary question to be settled later. The faipules say, howev.er: "It is best to unfeather one bird at a time."
