DEL VAYO'S OPPOSITION
TRUCE PROPOSAL PROBLEM OF WITHDRAWAL OF VOLUNTEERS. LONDON, May 25. A message from Geneva states that the former Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senor del Vayo, opposes the proposal for a truce'in the Spanish civil war. arguing that an agreement for the withdrawal of volunte6rs should be reached first. The British delegation at Geneva is attempting to obtain the support of the League Council' on the withdrawal of volunteers .from, Spain, but the task, is most formidable owing to the Spanish attitude and the unwillingness of other nations to offend Spanish susceptibilities, especially as the Spanish Government is dissatisfied with the League's reaction to its protests. The Rome correspondent of the "Morning Post" says that, while not openly opposing a truce, Italy will not take definite action before her motives are clearly elucidated. She will also require assurances that it will not be detrimental to the forces of the rebel commander-in-chief, General Franco, and, finally, that any withdrawal must be general.
