LOWRY PLAYS USEFUL PART

Giving a good performance all round on the second and final day of the match against Staffordshire, a secondclass county, the New Zealand criciketers secured the first win of their tour by a margin of 158 runs. The tourists followed up their first innings score of 119 with 193 for eight wickets, declared, and dismissed the county in the second innings for 86. The match was finished in fine weather on' a drying wicket. New Zealand obtained a^strong bosition in the second innings, owing to a chanceless innings by HJadlee and a useful, eighth-wicket partnership between Lowry and Viviian. When the innings was closed Staffordshire required 255 runs to win, with two and :> a half hours left for jplay. LOWKY IN'fIFORM. Hadlee hit five 4*3 and three ' 3's, mainly through the covers. Lowry played a characteristic innings, getting many quick singles from cuts and drives off Wakelin. Vivian hit three 4's, and a 6 into/the backyard of a house. Wallace aad Carson were both out. off miss-hits. Lamason showed improvement and drove the fast men confidently. <• In Staffordshire's second innings Weir did his befit bowling to date, making the ball swerve and also break in.
