THOUGHT FOR ANIMALS
(To the Editor.) .v ...Sir,—"lt is only. ; ihe conviction of the unity of all created life that gives them (i.e.,"animal lovers) the courage and enthusiasm to,carry on." The above is' a quotation from an English paper in an article explanatory of the work of various societies in their efforts to lessen the cruelties practised on ani-: mals in the civilised world. The quotation, Sir, conveys my excuse for troubling you with these lines. From
my windows I witness a pathetic sight —a young Alsatian dog forever on the chain, and, when not visible, shut in a garage.. Often he is sunk in dull apathy, at other times pacing the length of his chain with eager, wistful gaze, in hope of relief. This ill treatment is practised all over New Zealand— generally thoughtlessly, I am thankful to believe. The Press, Sir, is one of the main agencies by which ignorance of this kind may, we hope, be lessened, if not altogether dispelled, in time. —I am, etc., WULFRUNA.
