COLD CONSIGNMENTS
Consignments of gold to tne value of nearly £38,000,000 are being shipped from ■ Russia to Britain. About £5,000,000 has arrived, and has been forwarded to America. All the gold is being carried m ships of the Sorvtorgflot, the Russian State shipping organisation. In some cases, consignments worth £1,000,000 are being shipped in small and old vessels. In these cases, special insurance rates are bein^ charged, and underwriters have also decided to limit the amount of insurance on cargoes carried by ships of less'than 2000 tons to £500,000. Part of the bullion, it is assumed, is to be used to pay for the Soviet's recent heavy purchase of rubber and metals. It' is being reshipped to America because Soviet gold does not meet the requirements of the London bullion market in regard to weight and fineness: and is riot accepted as good delivery. . .
