HASTINGS WEDDING
POETT—HEERICK. (By Telegraph—Special to "The Post.!') HASTINGS, This Day. ' A wedding of interest to friends all over New Zealand was solemnised at Hastings today when Ethne Julia, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Herrick, -Lindisfarne," Hastings, was married to Lieutenant Joseph Howard. Nigel Poett, of the Durham Light. Infantry, son of Mrs. Poett and the later MajorGeneral Poett, Bath, England. The service was read by Father Macdonald in the drawing-room at "Lindisfarne"—lovely yellow chrysanthemums, violets, and autumn leaves being used for the decorations. ~., The bride was escorted by her father. She wore a beautiful frock of heavy cream satin cut on classical lines, buttoned" to the neck"arid" having a threecornered train from the waist. The sleeves were to the wrist, and the long tulle,veil hung gracefully from the head to the hem of the train. She wore a wreath of orange blossoms and carried a sheaf of arum lilies. Her only ornaments were pearls and - the I bridegroom's .present, a regimental badge in diamonds. ' ' There were five bridesmaids, Miss Barbara Herrick (sister of the bride), the Misses Dinah Hunter and Una Herrick (cousins of the bride), Miss Janet Orbell, of Timaru, Miss Christina Williams, oft Frimley. They were dressed alike; in attractive frocks of eau de','nil, having plain bodices and flared'skirts; lull short sleeves, and the necklines cut square in front and high at the back. They wore wreaths of pale pink leaves and carried bouquets of pale pink carnations. The chief bridesmaid wore a wreath of tiny flowers and carried a small posy. Mr. Dennis Herrick (brother of the bride) was best man. A reception of the bride's many friends was held in the garden, where a large marquee had;been erected and decorated with greenery. Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Herrick received their guests, Mrs: Herrick wearing a short black beaded model frock, small hat, and stonemarten fur. The. only toast was the health of the bride and groom, which was proposed by the Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston. After the wedding breakfast the bride Changed into her t going away suit —a dark blue tailleur with a beaver fur collar, dark blue eire satin blouse, and blue felt hat. Lieutenant and Mrs. Poett were given a rousing send-off as they left on their wedding trip. They sail in the Remuera on June 12 for England, where their future home will be. Relatives present included Mrs. W. H. Smith (Rotorua), grandmother," of the bride; Mr. R. C. Smith (Rotorua), uncla of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Herrick'(Tautane), Miss Ruth Herricjc (Napier), Mr. and Mrs. Percy Hunter (Porangahau), also the Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston and Mrs. Johnston (Wellington). Many very lovely gifts to the bride and groom were on view in the diningroom.
