SOME RECENT MEETINGS
MANCHESTER UNITY ODDFELLOWS. Loyal Antipodean Lodge.—Bro. Pil-' lar, Noble Grand, presided over a large attendance. A committee was set up to confer with Britannia Lodge regarding dispensary matters. A motidn to rescind the resolution passed at the last meeting and call for nominations for officers for the ensuing term was defeated. Bros. Hicks, Wishart, and Sutton were appointed to represent the lodge at the jubilee of Masterton Lodge. One new member was initiated. Visitors were present from the Hawera, Combination, Britannia, and Kilbirnie Lodges. Lodge honours were accorded the visitors. At the conclusior: ■of the meeting a challenge match at bowls between Kilbirnie and Antipodean Lodges was played, resulting in the Antipodean team retaining the Cropp Buttons. Loyal Sister Wallis Lodge.—The last meeting was well attended, Sister Maud Tregurtha, 1.P.N.G., presiding. Reports were received in respect to social visits to Moera Branch Lodge and to Combination Lodge, Johnsonville. Arrangements were completed to visit Masterton Lodge on the occasion of its jubilee in June. The vicegrand, elective secretary, warden, and guardian were chosen to represent the lodge, and it was advised that about twenty sisters would be accepting Masterton's invitation to a dance being held in connection with the celebrations. Pleasure, was expressed at the intimation that Dannevirke Lodge is arranging a visit to Wellington lodges. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:-r-Noble Grand, Sister Culverhouse; ViceGrand, Sister Alloway; elective secretary, Sister M. Champion; warden, Sister Forbes; guardian, Sister Dumbleton; conductors, Sisters E. Gibson and Arcus; pianist, Sister-A. Douglas; lecture mistress. Sister Maud Tregurtha; Immediate Past Noble Grand, Sister Joyce Tregurtha; delegate to U.F.S. Dispensary Board, Sister E. McFarlane. It was resolved that a letter of appreciation be sent to Bro. Park (Britannia Lodge), who has been the lodge's delegate to the U.F.S. Dispensary Board for some time, and regret expressed at the necessity for his resignation. Lodge honours were accorded visiting brethren. Letters of recommendation were granted Sisters Brice and Fiekert. LOYAL ORANGE INSTITUTION. Coronation Service. —Members of the Loyal Orange Institution turned out in numbers on the Sunday evening following the Coronation, the occasion being divine service arrangec in connection with the Coronation celebrations and held-in the Church of Christ, Vivian Street. Pastor A. G. Saunders read the lessons and gave an address on "The Majesty on High." The choir sang "The Coronation Ode," by Healey Willan, and one of its male members sang the-sacred solo, "Open the Gates of the Temple." Past District Master D. Moar recited the qualifications of an Orangeman. Lodge Kelburn.—The May meeting was presided over by the Immediate Past Master., several visitors being welcomed. A feature of the evening was the report on the annual sessions of Grand Lodge recently held at Christchurch, given by Wor. Bro. H. Elliott. An associate member was nominated and a candidate proposed for membership. Invitations to attend gatherings of local lodges were accepted. Gratification was expressed at the increase in membership, with prospects for a good syllabus of activities. ORDER OF RECHABITES. Excelsior Tent. —Sister J. Thomas, Chief Ruler, presided over a large attendance. The chief ruler extended a cordial welcome to Sister Streeter and Bro. Glen, who were received on transfer, and also to Bro. Ninnes. Thanks was given to the Sevite for the manner in which the hall had been decorated to celebrate the Coronation. The following members were nominated- as officers for the next term;—C.R., Sister J. Thomas; D.R.. Bro. P. A. Johnson; secretary, Bro. M. H. Jeffery; treasurer, Bro. G. Carpenter; Sevite, Bro. K. Carpenter; guardian, Bro. C. Streeter; stewards, Sister E. Jeffery. Bro. G. G. Stone, and Sister G. H. Jeffery; pianist, Bro. R. H. Coombe. After the usual business indoor bowls and cards were enjoyed by all. 1.0.0. F., N.Z. Maraenui Lodge (Miramar).—Bro. E. Sergent, N.G., presided over a good attendance. Invitations from Victoria Rebekah Lodge to a dance, and from Onslow Lodge to its anniversary celebration, were accepted. Arrangements were made to pay sev°ral official visits during the ensuing month. Two members were reported sick, and accounts totalling £6 8s 4d were passed. One candidate was nominated. The meeting was concluded early to a permit members to attend a dance being given by William Bain Lodge, G.U.0.0.F., Kilbirnie. Onslow Lodge (Khandallah).—Bro. C. Grayndler, N.G., presided over a good attendance. Two members were admitted on transfer. One member was reported sick, and relative sick-pay was passed. Arrangements were completed for celebrating the lodge's twelfth anniversary at the next meeting, the function to take the form of a card evening with musical items. Bro. /_. V. Thompson conveyed greetings from Huia Lodge, Hawera, and reported on a visit to its recent jubilee meeting.
