BANK STAFF CHANGES
PROMOTIONS AND RETIREMENTS
Mr. W. G.\ Cunningham, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Tau-, marunui, has been appointed manager at Rotorua. He will succeed Mr. J. M. Roberts, who will be retiring on pension on June 30. . Mr. Roberts has been 13 years at Rotorua and has been in the service of the Bank of New Zealand for 43 years except for a period on active service during the war. He joined up in August, 1914, and attained the rank of captain. He was invalided back to New Zealand in 1916 and discharged from military service in January, 1917. when he resumed duty with the bank. He is a son of Captain Roberts, who fought in the Maori War. One who was present on . Gallipoli describes "Lieutenant Jack Roberts" as "an uhmentioned hero in one of the bloodiest attac'-s that took place on the Peninsula Badly wounded, he led his men to a further- attack, and it was just touch and go with him. , . . His men thought no end of him, but the poor beggar was not even mentioned in dispatches simply because there were no officers present to record his gallantry." Mr. Roberts was manager of the Bank of New .Zealand at Te Puke for 14 years before being appointed to Rotorua. ' Mr W G. McDowell, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Raetihi, is to be manager at Taumarunui, and Mr. F. L. Smith, Otautau, will succeed Mr. McDowell at Raetihi. Changes have also been made in the staff of the National Bank of NewZealand. Mr. E. T. Stout,, manager of the Rlverton branch of the National Bank and previously stationed in the general manager's office, Wellington, has been appointed manager at Timaru. Mr. C. B. Matthewson, previously accountant at Invercargill, succeeds Mr. Stout as manager at Riverton. and Mr. A. G. C. Buckland. of the general manager's office, has been appointed accountant at Invercargill.
