PLEA OF GUILTY
INTOXICATION CHARGE
SEQUEL TO COLLISION
Pleading guilty to being found intoxicated in charge of a motor-car on May 21 in. Adelaide. Road, Elvin Thomas, motor mechanic, aged 26, appeared before Mr. E; D. Mosley,. S.M., in the .-.Magistrate's -Court, -today. ■ Sub-Inspector C. E.> Roach said that last night a Mr. Kay was "driving airing Adelaide Road towards the Winter Show buildings. When passing Chilka Street he saw a car coming towards him driven in an erratic manner from side :to side. Mr. Kay pulled right across near the kerb' on his correct side, and slowed down, almost stopping. ' Despite this,; the accused's car struck his vehicle, tore away the running board, careered on, hit a post, and came to rest at the corner against the kerb. When it stopped, the engine was racing as if a foot was still pressing' on:' the accelerator. Tools from the toolbox cm the running board were scattered oyer the roadway. When the police came on the scene, "they took the accused in charge, and he was "subsequently certified, as unfit to drive. A wheel, of his car was smashed, and the vehicle had to be removed by a break-down car... „ The accused said'that he left home about 11 a.m. that day to see if, he Could get work. About 5.30 p.m. he had three or four beers. He did not drink much, and had had no dinner or tea. The car was not his own.. He was married, with, two children. The accused was fined £10 and costs, in default 21 days' .imprisonment with' hard labour. He was prohibited from obtaining a licence until January 30, 1938, and his present licence was ordered to be cancelled and endorsed. I
