CAR LANDS IN CUTTING

(By Telegraph—Press .Association.) AUCKLAND, May 23. After skidding in loose metal at the approach to the Whangarata overhead bridge, a large sedan car driven by Mr. F. Smith, Bombay, and going from Pokeno to Tuakau, struck the steel stanchions on the northern side of the bridge, was deflected, crashed through the handrails on the opposite side, struck the railway cutting, and came to rest on the metals 18 feet below the road. Severe shock, concussion, and extensive lacerations to the neck and head were received by Mrs. Smith. Her sister, Miss M. White, who was also a passenger, received minor lacerations. Three children in the car were not injured. ■
