HOMING PIGEONS
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society flew two races during the weesend. The first was a floe* race from Taumarunui in which 15 members competed. The pigeons were liberated by tne stationmaster, who advised fine weather conditions, and a very creditable performance was recorded by tne winning birds. " The following was the result:-D. vMcDougall's "Blue Light," 4n 10mm 29sec, 1; F. Couper and Son's "Rising Star," 4h 11mm 7sec, 2 F Fhpp and Son's "Expectation, 4h llmmwsec, 3, Thomas and Bruce s "Hed Tenor," 4h 15min 30sec, 4, B. Clementss 'Wail and See," 4h2tom 12=ec, 5, N. Boyd and Son's, "White I- ang " 4h 29mm 47sec, 6. Section prizewinners were: West: section, F. Couper 'and Son 1, Thomas , and Bruce 2, B. iClements 3. East section, ■D.'McDougall .1, V. Flippand Son 2, N. Boyd and Son 3. „•■■■■-' :An interval', race was flown from Maniinui.. The pigeons were liberated by Mr. R. Patterson at ten-minute intervals between each bird, which had to fly the distance of 169 miles airline on.its own. ■•■Weather, conditions evidently were not too favourable and only four-members timed in. A very good performance was recorded by the Birds'who'timed in and the race was won by C. Haines's "Red Sunset, a. win "which proved most .popular.: The following are the times of the birds timed in:—C. Haines's "Red Sunset,' 4h 24min 35sec 1; F. Couper and Sons "Leading Lady," 4h 35min 9sec, 2; B. Clements's "Frisco Lady," 4h,49min:14 sec 3; F. Flipp and Son's "The Buzzer'," 5h llmin 45sec,. 4. . . The Petone Homing Pigeon Club flew two races during the weekend—a 3bird teams'- race from Waiouru (129 miles), all three birds to be clocked and average time to decide the winner, and a two-bird interval' race from Hunterville (90£ miles). Each pair was liberated at '15-minute intervals and both birds were clocked. Both races were flown under ideal weather conditions. The following were the first three places in each race:—From Waiouru: G. Goodward and Son's bird, 3h 3min 56sec, 1; J. Bolton and Son's ■bird, 3h 6min 48sec; W. Asplet's bird, |3h Bmin 18sec, 3.
