EASTER TRAVEL
IMPROVED RAIL FIGURES
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) ■ WANGANUI, This Day. , "Easter travel by rail this year has shown a great, improvement upon the figures for Easter: last year, both in numbers and .revenue," stated the Minister of Hailways (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) on Saturday. ."In. 1936 there were 340,000 : passengers carried. At Easter time this year the number amounted to 395,000, :an increase of 55,000, or 14 per cent. Easter traffic revenue increased by £12,000, an improvement of 18 per' cent, upon the Easter revenue f0r.1936. <•
"As there has been, no alteration in the scale of passenger fees," continued the Minister, -"the percentages of increase indicate that travellers by. rail were going further afield this year than they did in 1936. This may. be regarded as a further sign of the;improved economic : position ,of the 'people." '■ ..' v .'' .
