ASHBURTON TROTS

FRISCO BOY'S STAKES

(Special to the "Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, April 10. The Ashburton '1 rotting Ciub held its Autumn Meeting in good weather, following light ram in the morning, though tnere was a shower belore the concluding event. There was a very large attendance, and some great racing. The chief attraction was the All Age Stakes, in which a field' of fourteen staged one of the finest finishes ever seen at a trotting meeting. The totalisator handled £23,358, compared with £14,578, an increase of £-8780. ALL THE WAY. The Reefton mare Native Huon was in front all the way in the Allenton Handicap. ■ Beethoven, Fluke, Lustre, and Nahiinga followed her early. Sir (Kit was moving up fast, and he joined the leaders at the home turn,' only to I break when the straight was reached* Native Huon hung on to beat Fluke decisively by over, a length, with Beethoven a similar distance away, and Nahlinga. After a gap of six lengths came Sir Kit and Pilot Peter; The performance of the last-named was impressive, as he broke badly at the start, losing fully a hundred yards. The winner, a five-year-old by Native King from Olive Huon, had never raced previously,- and she looks. like going a long way ' among the unhoppled trotters. ,' JOVIAL FALLS. - , King Axworthy and Gratanella broke at the start of the Improvers' Handicap, while Jovial fell at the end of a furlong. Glen Travis led out from Stylish, Boy, Karoro, Jane Worthy, and Parauri. After being slow <to move, Bill B. moved up after going two furlongs. With five furlongs to go Stylish. Boy was showing the way to Karoro and Glen: Travis, with Bill 8., Jane Worthy, and Parauri next. Chelidon was moving up fast at this stage, from a good way back, and he followed Stylish Boy and Bill B. to the straight. Bill B. then took charge, but Chelidon wore him down, winning by a neck. Jane. Worthy was two lengths away, with Stylish Boy,. Parauri, Donor, and Karoro next. • '.., The winner, a ;three-year-old by biiK. Thread from Native Queen, had had no previous race, experience. He paid a three-figure dividend. The American colt Bill B. paced, a fine race, and will do much better with some more experience. " '' : '■?- ' \ A GREAT RACE. The All Age Stakes, provided one of the best races ever seen* on/.the course. Blair.Athol broke at the start, but, the others- all went off well.. Dark Hazard led out :from Frisco Boy, with Coherto. Half a length away, Lucky Jack beat Parisienne by a neck, while Grand Mogul, Pot Luck, and Double Great were less than a length away at the head, of a bunch.
