STONE FRUIT SCARCE
VEGETABLES PLENTIFUL
' The late frost that destroyed much of the fruit crop in Hawke's Bay last spring led to a scarcity of stone fruit in the Wellington area this autumn, and now that' supplies are almost finished there is little on the^ market. Hawke's Bay apples are also scarce, but there have been fairly heavy shipments from. Nelson. Pears are in short supply because of the Hawke s Bay frost losses. ■ ■ _.: ' There is still a good supply of fresh vegetables on the Wellington market, the wet season- having caused unusual growth, particularly in green crops. Either the wet weather or the imported parasites have kept the cabbage butterfly in check, and supplies of vegetables favoured by the caterpiller of the butterfly have been available during the season. -
