" ■■'■ \ The, British Government had; inquired, of the Belgian Prime Minister, Dr. Paul van Zeeland, whether: he would be willing to undertake a preliminary informal'■■■■■investigation in various countries as to'the possibility of securing, a general relaxation^ of quotas and other : obstacles to international trade.:, Dr.; van. Zeeland had been good enough''tostate -that he was disposed to accept this invitation. No international, conference was at present envisaged; ■'' . -'•'■.■"'.:! ' Mr. Baldwin's attention was drawn to a speech by the United States Sec : retary' 'of State; "Mr.v.Cordell-: Hull, urging the need for increased co-operation, -between the nations ■ of: 'the,.world.- He. was asked lf.he would consider extending the scope' of the agenda of the . forthcoming Imperial Conference to include this question.
