RECORDS BROKEN
JAPANESE ATHLETES

CHRtSTCHURCH, February 27. The Japanese athletes Kohei Murakoso and Kenshi Togami showed glimpses of their brilliant Olympic form today, breaking two New Zealand records at a complimentary meeting at Lancaster Park. Murakoso outran the record-holder, C. H. Matthews, in the three miles, covering' the. distance. in 14min 17sec, a New Zealand record, the previous record-being 14min 18 3-ssec.
Togami cleared 51ft lin in the hop, step, and jump, breaking the New Zealand record by a foot. Togami "also long-jumped 23ft Gin and high-jumped sft lOin. .
[ The visitors, snowed considerable improvement over earlier form on the tour, but the track was rather heavy after recent rains, and' although the day was warm conditions were not the best for record breaking. Another outstanding performance was the half-mile, run of V. P. Boot, the Olympic representative, who..established a new national record...of Imin 53 4-ssec, one second better than the existing figure. ■ ' A.' T, Anderson, national champion, ran the 440 yds hurdles in record time, 55 l-ssec, but the. hurdles were placed wrongly and the time cannot be allowed. He will attempt the record, again next week."
