ECONOMIC PENSIONS.

In complaining of the failure •of the Government to honour its election promise to restore the full 'economic pension to disabled, soldiers, instead of only a -part, "Patriot" writes: "Thousands are spent, willingly, upon memorials to the dead soldiers, but the injured living soldiers are regarded as an encumbrance; apparently a soldier is much more of a hero dead than alive. With the effluxion of time their ranks are fast diminishing, and therefore the payment of economic pensions must gradually become less. Surely these men have a greater claim than that of a naturalised alien (Chinese, etc.), to whom the Government proposes to give pensions. With so many returned. men in the ranks of the Government,' surely they will see to it that justice is done their disabled comrades in arms, and the Government honour its, promise to them as it has done to other sections of the community."

In reply to the suggestion by "Fair Play" that students finding lodging unsatisfactory could always move on, "Student" states that this- entails expense and inconvenience. "Of the many places now offering board to the student, many which are not unsuitable for other reasons charge high prices. It is obvious that all young men coming, to Wellington from good homes will not be able to be accommodated at Weir House, and therefore I believe that all students' will join with me in emphasising the need for further proper student accommodation."
