V.M.C.A. ANNIVERSARY

LADIES' AUXILIARY EFFORT

In connection with the effort that is being made by members of the ladies' auxiliary of the V.M.C.A. to raise £70 to present to the institution on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, which is now being celebrated, Mesdames H. Hannah and D. L. Gibson acted as the hostesses at a function held yesterday ' afternoon in the V.M.C.A. lounge. A small charge was made for admission, and the organisers of the function had the satisfaction o£ seeing the lounge well filled.

Those who attended were rewarded by hearing an interesting address on Palestine by Miss Amy Kane, who spoke of her experiences during, her visit to that^ country which has been very, much'in the news recently owing to the trouble between the Arabs and the Jews. Miss Kane said that Palestine was one of the most interesting' and fascinating countries in the world and was well worth a visit. At the conclusion of her address several interesting articles she had brought back from Palestine were passed round. Elocutionary items were given by Mrs. Boyes, and songs were sung by Miss Doris Black,, accompanied by Miss L. Finlay at the piano. , Afternoon tea was served. At the last meeting of the ladies' auxiliary Mrs. A. E. W. Lythberg was presented with a charming posy on the occasion of her birthday in appreciation of the work she has done in connection with afternoon teas.
