CONFERENCE REMITS

Several important remits were carried at yesterday afternoon's sitting of the Dominion hockey conference. The suggestion was made that it might be possible to arrange a visit by a Japanese team in 1939 in preparation for the Olympic Games in Japan in 1940. In an endeavour to get better publicity, it was decided to try to get permission from the Minister of Broadcasting for the B stations to broadcast important hockey matches. It was agreed that the North v. South Island game be discontinued and it was also suggested that the maximum time for a game to be held up through injury be two minutes. Other remits carried were as follows: — "That the conference approves of a yearly levy of one shilling per player being made on • all players in grade teams, for the purpose of raising funds to send a New Zealand team to the Olympic Games in Japan." "That an annual conference of direct delegates be held providing that 60 per cent, of direct delegates attend." "That the New Zealand association consider the desirability of becoming a member of the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games Association" "That the conference approves of continuing the present arrangement of matches between. Australia, and New Zealand at two-yearly periods. That the question of future Indian and Australian tours be fully discussed." The difficulty some associations met with in financing trips to Auckland for matches for the New Zealand Challenge Shield was mentioned by Mr. C. P. McKenzie. He said it should be competed for on Chatham Cup lines. This proposal was opposed by the Auckland delegate, who said that in a few years the shield would be a financial success. Auckland, he said, had already travelled with the shield.
