DURBAN JULY HANDICAP

South. ' Africa's premier handicap event, the July Handicap, 1£ miles, at Durban, was won this year by Mr. J. H. Stodeis Petersfield II in a thrilling finish with Mr. C. G. Harsant's Aphros and Mr. M. Nathan's Candican.

Petersfleld 11, a chestnut four-year-old by, Scherzo out of Bergaurea, won two races in England as a two-year-old. They were the Molyneux Stakes at Liverpool and the Badminton Stakes at Chester. .'.

At the December sales in 1934 he was sold by Mrs. Shand for 220gs, and shipped to South Africa. Scherzo, the sire, was sire also of the flying Bambury, who came out to the Dominion.
