NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK WORK
(Special from "Hurry On.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The tracks at New Plymouth were rather heavy for training operations yesterday morning but most of the horses worked and some good gallops were registered. All the galloping took place on the course proper with the flags 50 feet out. ;,'
From a standing start at the fivefurlong post Ferseri and Brilliancy took 15sec for' the first furlong but then reeled off the .last four in 56sec. Fersen under a good pull was a length in front at the finish but Brilliancy was not bustled. - This gallop took place, early and the track was better later on. Fersen again carried out his task in an impressive fashion. H. Dulieu's team were restricted to steady tasks but Royal Secret bowled over two circuits in free style. This mare looks well and Red Sand is making good progress. ■ ■ " Eagle's Eye, Card Sharper, Mowgli and the Captain Bunsby gelding did steady work. Eagle's Eye is the Bronze Eagle—Madam Ristori filly in H. Gray's stable.
After the breakfast interval the first to go was Clessamor, who bowled over seven furlongs in his usual good style, the last five occupying lmin llisec. He was under a strong pull all the way and could easily have improved on this time. Calshot and Ngatirahiri were on terms at the conclusion of half a mile in 55 4-ssec. They were not hurried over the first part but came home strongly. Ngatirahiri appreciated the soft track.
High Test and Tomoana did a good working gallop over seven furlongs. They kept together all the way and finished well. High Test is coming to hand, quickly. White Heron covered half a mile at a good three-quarter pace. She hit out freely and handled the going well.
Don Erma and Script were associated over four hurdles. ' Don Erma, jumping in great style, was much too good for his companion but as it was Script's first attempt in company his display was quite satisfactory. Don Erma is a fit horse at present. Aussia Ra and Davistock were responsible for the best effort of the morning when they, ran half a mile in 55 2-ssec. This was a good effort as both horses appeared'to be going comfortably at the finish. Aussie Ra continues to make marked progress. Winsome Lv worked lazily over five furlongs but she will' never exert herself unless she has company. Kaola, who. bears a fair appearance, was given good half-pace work on the' inside grass. Cynical Boy was schooled over six hurdles. He.fenced safely but slowly, jumping in hunting style. He will probably do better in company. The Colossus—Piuthair mare who has just joined R. Barlow's .team did easy pace work. She is a nice-looking," rather, low set mare, but is backward.
A surprise nomination for the open sprint events for the Combined Hunts Meeting is the hurdler. Silk Sox. He was to have been spelled after the National. His owners, Messrs. S. and R. Topless, are great supporters of the hunt club and he may have been entered to assist the fields in these events.
