PLACEMENTS GROW
A USEFUL OFFICE
MORE CENTRAL-QUARTERS
Work in private situations is being increasingly found weekly by the placement officer of the Labour Department for applicants, whose numbers have also increased as the value of the facilities offered to them is becoming more extensively realised.
In the week ending last Saturday 238 applicants were found permanent positions, 218 were found casual employment, and 131 were found temporary employment, a total of 577, a record. To date 1998 permanent, 622 casual, and 1118 temporary situations have been found for applicants by the Placement Officer, a total of 3637.
The placement office has been removed to Howden's Buildings, in Wakefield Street, a more central position. Though the new quarters are in use, they have not been officially declared open, and this will be done shortly by the Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong).
