SOME RECENT MEETINGS
1.0.0. F., N.Z. District Lodges.—Bro. R. J. Mathers, D.D.G.M., presided over a fair attendance. Visitors included Bro. Cooksley (Otaki) and Bro. Allcot (Christchurch) Accounts were passed for payment. The quarterly report was received from the hospital fund. Seven members were admitted to the first degree by the Degree Master, Bro. Munro. Several remits, proposed by Bro. Lee, were authorised to be sent to Grand Lodge. Considerable discussion took place on a motion in regard to the election of D.D.G.M. held over from the previous meeting, and on a vote being taken the motion was lost. Southern Cross Lodge.—Bro. E. Miller presided over a large attendance. An official visit was received from Bro R. W. Harvey, N.G., and officers of Zealandia Lodge. Favourable reports on the sick members were received from the' sick visitors. Accounts totalling £141 9s were passed for payment. A report on the dispensary was received from the delegate. One member was admitted by clearance and two candidates initiated. Two members were authorised to take their first degree at District Lodge. Visitors present included Bro. A. H. Valentine, Past Grand Master, and Bro. Cooksley (Otaki). After the conclusion of essential business members of Zealandia Lodge were entertained in the district "500" tournament, Southern Cross' Lodge retaining the shield by a narrow margin. Wildey Lodge.—Bro. A. J. Holding presided over a creditable attendance. Three members were reported on the sick list, and two members declared off the fund, relative sick pay, together with general accounts, being passed for payment. A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late v ßro. F. D. Malcolm was passed, members standing in silence. Reports from various committees were adopted. A special' vote of thanks was accorded Bro. W. S. Hammond and others for their work in connection with the raising of funds. The "Honours of the Order" (were accorded Bro. A. H. Valentine, Past Grand Master, who officially visited the lodge. Responding, he thanked members for their .welcome and expressed his willingness to give a lecture on the ritual and its .history. The treasurer reported on the healthy financial position of the. lodge, splendid progress being shown. Routine business being concluded, the lodge was closed to allow a dance to be held for the children's Christmas party fund. . • ■ Ngaio Rebekah Lodge.—Sister Kenvig, N.G., presided over a large attendance. Sister Sergent. L.D:D.G.M:, on behalf of District Lodge, .presented Sister Thompson with a membership jewel for nominating ■ twentyi-seven members, and x Sisters Ashwpod. and Godfrey each received "Triple Links" for obtaining three members each. Victoria' Rebekah Lodge.-^-Sister I. Gubbins, N.G., presided. ■ An invitation to a social was received from Rahiri Rebekah Lodge. Three ladies and one brother were nominated for membership. An official visit was received from the D.D.G.M., Bro. R. J. Mathers. It was decided to pay an;official visit to Rahiri Lodge. Sister Sergent, L.D.D.G.M., presented Sisters A. McKinnon and Coote with "Three1 Links" badges on account of awards made by District Lodge. A vote "of welcome lo visitors was responded to by Sister Deardon (Esther Lodge) and Bro. Mathers. After the conclusion of business a "popular songs" competition was held, the winner being Sister.J. Havill. Rose of Wellington Rebekah Lodge. —Sister L. Merrje.N.G., presided.! Several members were reported on the sick list, sick pay and medical accounts being passed for payment. After a short meeting a successful social was held in conjunction, with Southern Cross Lodge. , Esther Rebekah- Lodge.—Sister G. Joiner, N.G., presided over a good attendance. One nomination was received for membership. An official visit was received from Bro. A: J. Bargh. D.D.G.M;, of, Hutt Valley District. In responding to a vote of welcome to the visitors Bro. Bargh presented' Sister Sergent, L.D.D.G.M., with a camera to remind her of a recent trip to Wanganui. At the conclusion of lodge business a' "Back to Childhood" party was held. The prizes for the best boy and girl were awarded to Sister McGill (Ngaio Lodge) and Sister Roberts (Esther Lodge), respectively. ORDER OF RECHABITES. Kilbirnie Tent.—Bro. A. Johnson, C.R., presided over a good attendance, Three new members were admitted; Bro. H. Johnson, deputy ranger, arid Bro. Heines, Guardian, who were absent at the last meeting, were installed into office by Bro. Anderson. Bro. F. G. Johnson was unanimously elected as coach for the ritual competition. Owing to the temporary absence of Sister Johnson, Sister W. Gardiner was . appointed as convener of the social committee, which is to draw up ■ a programme for the next meeting. It was decided to call a special meeting to consider remits for the annual provincial council meet ing. The Tent afterwards went into harmony. GRAND UNITED ODDFELLOWS. Lodge of Instruction.—The Wellington District Council held a lodge of instruction recently, when district officers present were Bros.'Harner, D.M., Palmer, D.D.M., Ryde, district secretary, Sis. Ryde, treasurer, and Bros. Mahony, Knight, and Sis. Hey, district trustees. The Grand Master, Bro. Hooper, and Grand ' Secretary, Bro. Bradstock, were also pi'esent. The District Lecturer, Bro. Mahony, instructed, four candidates in the First Degree and 14 were advanced in the Second Degree, and 16 to the Third Degree; After the district lectures had been given Bro. Ryde gave a. lecture on the preferential system of balloting, afterwards answering questions on various points. Dancing was indulged in after the meeting. Sister Murphy officiating at the piano. '" :-. \ '" Loyal Central Branch.—Sister. L: Hooper, N.G., presided, Bro. B. Hutchinson, P.N.G., supervising. One ' candidate .came up for initiation and four new members were nominated. Bro. Kennedy, reported on the coming table tennis, tournament and Bro. Couper on the annual ball. Bro. Hooper reported onameetins of the U.F.S. Dispensary. JP.N.G. lectures were given by the I branch lecturer. Badminton and cards concluded an enjoyable evening. : Star-of Newtown Branch. —There was a large attendance. Sister J. Ryde presided, with Sister O'Connell in the P.N.G.. chair.. Three candidates came forward for initiation. Accounts and sick pay were passed. ' Reports were received from the ball delegate and the social secretary.. The balancesheets of the picnic and -sports club were received. The meeting concluded, members retiring into harmony. Loyal- Ryde.—Bro. A. Thomas presided, the supervising- officer being Bro.. H. Tingay. The balance-sheets of the sports and picnic committees were received. Bro. Norton reported on the recent card evening, Bro. Thomas on the. proposed table tennis tournament, and Bro. Rabbit on the annual ball. Bro. Tingay.was appointed delegate to the Friendly Societies' Council. Sister Sinclair and-Bro. Mattherson .were elected supporters to the V.G.
