BANTRY IMPROVED

STORK. SIRES A HUNTER

(Special from "Hurry On.")

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 10.

The approach of the Combined Hunts Meeting is making training operations more interesting at New Plymouth, and on Saturday morning there were nearly forty horses working. As there is a distinct possibility of some of the visiting teams arriving early to take advantage of the good tracks, the number may be increased shortly. AH the galloping took place on tne course proper, with the flags out about 18 feet.

From a standing start, Brilliancy ran six furlongs in lmin 23 l-ssec. He moved evenly all the way, and finished on strongly.. It was a pleasing effort for a maiden.

Royal Secret, who looks fit, strode out freely over a couple of circuits on the inside. A similar task was allotted to Court Anna. As he has been nominated for the hurdle race on the second day it would appear as though he is to be put to the jumping almost immediately. He jumped one fence in great style on Wednesday morning. Sporting Song, who has just been recommissioned, was let off with easy work. He looks bright and well. Bantry, who has freshened up a lot since Trentham, was given half-pace work on the inside grass. Jumping off at the mile and a quarter post, Fersen covered the first halfmile at half pace, but he speeded up to run the last six furlongs in lmin 21 l-ssec. He infused plenty of dash into his work and came home full of running. He continues to make splendid progress.

Mowgh did easy pace work on the inner. This half-brother to Forestry is a likely-looking sort, though his form has been disappointing. Card Sharper and the Captain Buusby gelding did two rounds of sharp half-pace work on the inside. Card Sharper is a particularly smooth mover for a big horse. Clessamor was too good for Tomoana over five furlongs in lmin 5 3-ssec. They ran the first two furlongs in 25sec and the three in 37^sec, but Clessamor finished full of running. He continues to make marked improvement, but is not likely to race until the Avondale Meeting. Winsome Lv shaded Carleaf at'the end of half a mile in 54sec. Winsome Lv is shaping attractively, while Carleaf is showing improvement. • Aussie Ra, Davistock, and Script were associated in a good working gallop over six furlongs, the last five occupying lmin 13sec. Aussie Ra and Davistock were moving particularly well at the finish. The former has come to hand quickly, ■ and will probably be given a race at the Hunt Meeting.

The hunter White Heron showed a nice turn of pace to finish in front of Kaqla over three furlongs in 42£ sec. White Heron, who is to compete in the hunters' flat event at the coming meeting, will be the first of the progeny of the Hallowmas horse Stork to race. Kaola is looking bright and muscular. . ■ ■

Don Erma and Cynical Boy strode out freely over, two circuits at a solid half pace on the inside. Don Erma is looking well, and Cynical Boy appears to have gone the right way since winning at the Point to Point.

Ringside, who has been purchased by a patron of R. Barlow's stable, will co.mmence work next week. The same trainer is also receiving a four-year-old mare by Colossus, from that good performer Puithair. -
