MAHMOUD OUT OF FAVOUR
A severe defeat will usually send the best of horses out of favour for events ahead, and one leading English critic, writing at the beginning of last month, says:. "The form of Mahmoud at Ascot apparently disposes of his chance in the St. Leger Stakes."
The favourite for the St. Leger a month ago was Rhodes' Scholar, and as the result of a further success since he is certain to have hardened considerably in questions. Another colt who occupied a forward position in discussions was Precipitation, one of the last of Hurry On's gets and a typical chestnut son of his sire. Precipitation, who is owned by Lady Z. Wernher, is a member of Captain C. Boyd-Rochfort's stable, and when lie recently won the King Edward VII Stakes he-had a useful field behind
