OWNERSHIP OF SITE
JOHNSONVILLE QUESTION
I The question of ownership and revenue from the section of land known as the old school site was discussed at last night's meeting of the Johnsonville Town Board, when, a deputation oi; the subject was received from the Johnsonville School Committee. Mr. A. L. Richardson, speaking for the deputation, said he had communicated with the Education Board'in an endeavour to clarify the question. A detai'ied reply had been received from, the Education Board and he proceeded to read extracts. He explained that the site was near the Methodist Church and the present school committee had expressed surprise that such a valuable j section had been idle for so long. j The, committee was also anxious t» know whether any funds had accrued during recent years. The chairman of the Johnsonville Town Board (Mr s G. H. Lawrence) replied that practically no revenue had "^ accrued from the section during the past twelve or thirteen years and though efforts had been made'to leasa it, nothing satisfactory had been undertaken. ■ ■ ' . . Mr. Richardson said that the section would be ideal for the erection of a town hall, which would be an acquisition to Johnsonville. He was of ths opinion that it would ultimately be a paying proposition. - Mr. S. W. Fitzherbert said that though vested in the. Johnsonville Town Board the ownership of the section had apparently long . been ' lost sight of, and until further investigations were made they could not say .where they stood. The deputation finally decided that at the next meeting of the school committee a copy of the letter received from the Education Board, together with any further suggestions, would be sent to the Town Board in an ends* your to elucidate the position.
