HOSPITAL'S WINNING WAY
Hospital made one of their infrequent appearances on their own ground and inflicted a heavy defeat on Institute, >vho, despite the score, however, were not outclassed. Bilby, Boyes, and.Hicks were largely responsible for the team's downfall, their marking of Hospital's star forwards, Gibb and Webster, being poor, and causing King, Watson, and McLean to be overworked. King saved Institute repeatedly, most of Hospital's goals being scored from close in.
Gibb, opened Hospital's score and enabled Stanbridge to put his side further ahead. Briggs then gained possession from a midfleld movement and, working the ball down, crossed a good ball for Stanbridge to net.! Hospital 3,.lnstitute 0. Institute rallied through Marshall and Ward, but their efforts failed owing to poor finishing.
Jeffery initiated the best goal of the match when he ■ put Webster through for the centre to make a solo effort and beat King from close range. At halftime the" score was: Hospital 4, Institute: 0: ■■.'■-... • f
Changing over, ■ Institute had the benefit of the northerly and ; gave Wyatt more work • than in the first spell. Ward went, to outside left—a doubtful change, as he had been a thrustful centre in the first half. Marshall made frequent attempts to rally the Institute forwards, and for a period Miles and Thompson were kept busy. Hospital steadied up with the fourgoal lead, and play became ragged. Several corners were conceded by Institute, but.were unproductive. Stanbridge and Webster added further goals for Hospital, making the final score: Hospital 7, Institute 0.
The teams were:—
Hospital: Wyatt; Miles, Thompson; Todd, Jeffery, Briggs; Gibb, Stanbridge, Webster, Shankie, Woods.
Institute: King; Watson, McLean Bilby, Boyas, Hicks; Marshall, Suther land, Ward, Tanner, McNaughton.
Referee; Mr. J. Graham.
