WELLINGTON SCORE

The strong northerly made things unpleasant at Kilbirnie when Wellington met St. Patrick's Old Boys. After a fast and even game Wellington won by 12 points to 6. The teams were:— Wellington.—Cresswell; Edv/ards, Kelly, Ullrich; Trapp, Veitch; Hislop; Dimes, Bracken, Stevens, McLean, Fraser Smith, Carlyon, Coupland, Bell. St. Patrick's Old Boys.—B. Dennehy; Wareham, Black, Twohill; O'Connor, Jeffries; Marshall; Hogan, P. O'Connor, McCarthy. Smith, Robinson, P. Dennehy, Todd. Cunningham. St. Patrick's played with the wind in the first spell, but did not make great use of it. Although they scored

six points, a little more accuracy and care would have brought more. With a big share of -the ball from the scrums the St. Patrick's backs did not penetrate far, and mishandling and forward passes ruined some fine openings. The first score came when O'Connor received from Marshall, and burst through between Veitch and Trapp to send on to Black for the last-named to score alongside the posts. Todd failed with a "sitter." St. Patrick's .Old Boys 3, Wellington 0. It was , not long ere St. Pat.'s added to their total when P. O'Connor put over a penalty goal. St. Patrick's Old Boys 6, Wellington 0. Two passing runs almost brought success, but forward passes saved Wellington, and half-time blew with St. Patrick's Old Boys 6. Wellington 0.

The Wellington forwards, with Fraser Smith in the van, made things warm for the defence in the second spell. A burst left Edwards going for the line, but a good tackle saved a score. Wellington kept at it, but, for once, the backs could not get together and many good intentions went awry. Trapp opened Wellington's account bylacking a penalty goal from nearly half-way. St. Patrick's Old Boys 6, Wellington 3. St. Patrick's made a rally, and reached the opposing 25, where a scrum saw Hislop give to Veitch, who broke through the opposing backs till past half-way, and passed to Trapp, who outdistanced all pursuers ,to score under the posts. He missed an easy kick. St. Patrick's Old Boys 6, Wellington 6. Wellington at'ain attacked, and Trapp added to the score with another penalty. Wellington 9, St. Patrick's Old Boys 6. Play was fast, but became a little ragged, and penalties against each side were prevalent. A tearing loose rush by Wellington ended in Kelly scoring n unconverted try. Wellington 12, St. Patrick's Old Boys 6. Up-and-down play followed till no-side with the scores Wellington 12, St. Patrick's Old Boys 6.

Mr. J. S. King was referee.
